Mauritius Private Craft Day Tour

While most Mauritius attractions include a glimpse into the scenery, wildlife or cultural affairs of the island, if you look hard enough, there are also Mauritius tours that operate at a slower, more laid-back pace. This private craft tour starts your day off with a casual stop at the famous Bois Cheri Tea Plantation. Relax, unwind and enjoy some fabulous Mauritian tea tasting in a beautiful chalet overlooking a serene lake. Then, once you’ve finished sampling, the next attraction on the agenda is the Saint Aubin Rhumerie Colonial Mansion, which is known for its elegant display of vanilla and anthurium flowers. This Mauritius tour even includes viewing the art of miniature shipbuilding. You’ll be wondering why you haven’t tried an easygoing, craft-based tour before!

It’s no doubt the most popular tea in Mauritius; just the smell of the wonderful vanilla-infused black tea brings back fond memories for all Mauritians. You will have the opportunity to choose whether you would like a guided visit of the factory and tea plantation, a visit of the tea production museum, a tea tasting, or all three (which is our recommendation!).

St. Aubin Rhumerie and Vanilla Plantation:
St. Aubin Rhumerie uses both the artisanal and traditional distillery techniques to make its award-winning rum. You will have the opportunity to visit the factory and learn about the rum-making process, and sampling the delicious varieties of rum that they offer. You can also visit the beautiful historical colonial house and the vanilla and anthurium flower plantations.

Artisanal Ship Model Workshop:
Mauritius is well known for its artisanal ships that are expertly hand-crafted by talented artisans. People fly to Mauritius from all over the world to admire and purchase these unique and beautiful works of art. You will have the opportunity to visit a traditional workshop and learn about the art of model ship-building. If you would like to purchase one as a souvenir of your trip, you will be able to choose from the many unique models on display.
Note: Entrance is free.

Diamond Museum:
Discover how diamonds are expertly cut by local artisans and learn about the process of manufacturing diamonds from beginning to end. You will be able to see the experts at work and view their creations on display at the museum.
Note: Entrance is free.

Gris Gris and La Roche qui Pleure:
While most of Mauritius is surrounded by coral reefs, giving us the calm lagoon the island is famous for, the southern part of the island is where there is a break in the reef. At Gris Gris, you will be able to admire the rugged scenery of big, powerful waves crashing on the stunning cliffs. A few metres away, you will see La Roche qui Pleure, a natural rock formation that resembles a person crying when the waves hit it.
