Note: It may not be possible to make this stop in the month of February or March as the area is also a pilgrimage site during the festival of Mahashivaratree. Nature lovers will enjoy the incredible views of the Black River Gorges, the largest national park in Mauritius. Covering an area of 6754 hectares, the park is home to numerous endemic flora and fauna and provides visitors with beautiful hikes, with varying levels of difficulty. During your drive through the park and Plaine des Champagnes, you will also get to stop and admire Alexandra falls and viewpoint, and if they’re in season, like the locals, you’ll want to pick a few goyaves de chine! Visit the popular Chamarel, the coloured earth site, where in addition to the geological wonders of the seven coloured dunes, you can view the Chamarel Falls, the most famous waterfall in Mauritius! And, make sure you stop by the giant tortoise pens before leaving the park!

 

Speedboat Tour From Flic en Flac: Swimming With Wild Dolphins, Snorkelling, Crystal Rock & Benitiers Island

This excursion has it all: swimming with wild dolphins, snorkelling, a barbecue lunch and time to relax and swim on a tropical island!
After arriving at the meeting location in Flic en Flac at 7:15am, you’ll board the speedboat and be treated to a complimentary breakfast on board.

Next, you’ll be taken to swim with the wild dolphins who make their home off of the coast of Mauritius! You’ll spend approximately two hours on the open sea viewing and swimming with these magnificent creatures.

Note: If you prefer not to swim with the dolphins, and just watch them, you can arrive at 9:15am instead (please let us know when you reserve).

After swimming with the dolphins you’ll slowly make your way to Benitiers Island, but not before heading to La Preneuse Beach to do some snorkelling (snorkeling equipment provided) and having a chance to swim at the picturesque Crystal Rock, located just off of Benitiers Island.

Upon arriving on Benitiers Island you’ll be treated to a barbecue lunch before having time to tan, relax, swim and enjoy the lagoon and island. Beer, soft drinks, juice and water are served with lunch and punch is served to close out the day.

This picturesque viewpoint is located in the south-west part of Mauritius, where the coastal road is built around a sharp curve along a cliff, giving it its dramatic and breathtaking appeal.

Then your driver will then take you to visit La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes where you will discover beautiful palm and banana trees, giant bamboos, impressive animals, including 2,000 Nile Crocodiles and 1,000 giant tortoises. You will also visit their insectarium which boasts one of the best private collections in the world with 23,000 species.

Mont Choisy

Welcome to one of the longest beaches on the island! Popular with locals on the weekend, but much quieter during the week, this beach offers shallow turquoise waters and a backdrop of casuarina trees. It also features several food options that you can savour while soaking in the beauty of the beach.

La Cuvette

Many visitors haven’t heard of this hidden jewel located near the town of Grand Bay. Just 80 meters in length, this beach is surrounded by hidden coves and rocky boulders.

Pereybere

Located next to the resort town of Pereybere, this is one of the island’s most popular beaches among Mauritians. The water tends to be slightly deeper here than most other beaches, but is still very calm. There are plenty of food stalls along be beach and cafes and restaurants in the town of Pereybere.

Insider Tip: All beaches offer snorkelling, but Trou aux Biches has the best snorkelling. Make sure you bring your snorkelling gear with you, as this is not provided (except during the swimming with dolphins part of the trip). Ask your hotel staff for the best place to buy snorkelling equipment near you.

A tour of the North isn’t complete without a visit to Port-Louis, the capital of Mauritius. The city is a blend of the old and the new. On one side you have the hustle and bustle of the city’s historical market (bazaar), built in 1828, where you can bargain for different spices and souvenirs and sample Mauritian street food. And on the other side you have the modern Caudan Waterfront, where there visitors can shop at brand name stores and eat at various restaurants. You can leisurely visit the areas of Port-Louis that interest you such as the Jummah Mosque, Blue Penny Museum, Aapravasi Ghat (UNESCO heritage site), and the smaller streets. For great views, your driver will take you for a stop at the Citadel and you will also get to see the Champs de Mars racecourse on the way.

Ile aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve
Your first stop will be at Pointe Jérome, where you will embark on a small boat that will take you across the turquoise waters to Ile aux Aigrettes, a small coralline limestone island situated in the South East of Mauritius. Declared a nature reserve in 1965, this island is home to unique flora and fauna, that was once considered on the verge of extinction. When you arrive on the island, you will meet one of the trained and knowledgeable rangers who will accompany you on a guided 1.5 to 2 hour hike around the island. As a result of the successful conservation efforts by scientists on the island, you will have the opportunity to view unique species such as the Mauritian Fody, Pink Pigeon, giant Aldabra Tortoise, and the Ornate Day Gecko in a safe and protected environment. You will also discover the original trees and vegetation that, before the arrival of man, covered Mauritius and its surrounding islands.

Blue Bay Beach

National History Museum (Naval Museum)
During this stop, you will get to discover the fascinating history of Mauritius through a collection of curated artifacts, historical documents, and maps, housed in the Gheude Castle, an old French colonial mansion, built around 1772.
